The Oaks School of Leadership

So, I have not blogged in a long time, sorry. So anyway, I am going to be leaving IL in August to start a new chapter in Waxahachie, TX. I will be attending SAGU along with the internship at the Oaks School of Leadership. At this school I will have the opportunity to gain experience while earning a degree through SAGU, thats AWESOME!! I cant wait. The atmosphere at SAGU and & OSL is just unbelievable!!! It makes me want to go after God even more!! Anyway, so now I am just waiting on God to provide the money for me to go to this amazing place. At times I am very nervous about this, BUT, since its God's will for me to go to OSL, HE WILL PROVIDE FOR ME!! He will not just leave me hanging all by myself. So as my days in High School, come to a close, I pray that I have done the very best I can to be an image of Him. I hope that through my testimony, that souls would come to know Christ. Thats why who I am today, because of JESUS!! Please that as college comes closer that I become even more intune with the Spirit.

Turning an assingment into a preaching opportunity

So today in Speech class, I had to present a speech on my favorite holiday! Well being Easter weekend, I talked about the TRUE meaning of easter! It was soo much fun! I now that the students were impressed. Here is the speech or what I call a sermon improv!
Easter
Easter. What is Easter? To some people this holiday revolves around a fluffy white bunny that brings them tons of candy. Children of all ages become extremely active from eating all of the sugary sweets and don’t realize that there is more to this holiday then just candy. (Pause) The true reason why we celebrate Easter is due to the ultimate sacrifice a man made many years ago.
Since Adam and Eve sinned, God knew that He needed to provide a pure and holy sacrifice in order for mankind to spend eternity with Him. In the Bible it states that God sent his Son to save mankind from their sins. Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice since he never sinned.
In the Old Testament, God told Abraham to sacrifice his son on Mount Moriah. Abraham obeyed God and went to sacrifice his son as instructed. However, God spared Isaac’s life at the last second. God told Abraham He would provide the lamb.
Thousands of years later, on that same mountain now known as Golgotha or the place of the skull, Jesus Christ climbed up and offered himself to pay for the sins of mankind. Jesus Christ is the lamb that God spoke about and Jesus was human without original sin.
Jesus was sentenced to death for our sins. Jesus did not know how to sin. He was a person full of love and compassion for humanity. When he was being persecuted by us and He asked God to forgive them, for they did not know what they were doing. Jesus even loved Judas even though Judas betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver.
Let me ask you something. If you were among the twelve disciples and found out that Judas betrayed Jesus, how would you react? (Pause) Would you kill Judas? Or would you show love toward Judas and forgive him of sins? Judas had a weakness. Money was his kryptonite. He was a very greedy person.
So overall, Easter is about the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for humanity. Because of His sacrifice, we can spend time in heaven with Jesus forever! The Easter holiday means so much to me. This event shows me that I am loved by God. God loved me so much, that He sent his only Son to die for me. Whenever I watch the movie, “ The Passion of The Christ”, I cry when I see my Savior being whipped and ridiculed. He was willing to die for my sins. I placed him on that cross of terror. How can He love a person like me that sins daily? God can love anybody because God is Love. God does not know how to not love a person. God is like of a river of love flowing through the earth. He is everywhere and He will NEVER leave. Overall, our God is an awesome God for loving us so much!

The Prodigal Son Testimony!!!

So this past month has been really amazing!! God has really been moving in my school. This student that I have class with has been struggling with faith very much. She was a critical point in her life. She was in a huge downward spiral. I am not going to go into any details but you get the big picture. Well, she was gone last month for two weeks straight. May I remind you I have been praying for her on a daily basis. I ask her why she does not care about God at all. Well when she came back after the two weeks, I saw a COMPLETE NEW PERSON!! She came to me all excited saying that she rededicated her life to God. Tears began to come to me. God has shown me that is STILL at work in peoples lives. She told met that she gave up all the junk!! She showed me that she bought a purity ring with the words 1 Thesalonians 4:3-6. I was sooo happy!! In just the way she talks I know that she has changed. She is soo pumped up about God and everything else. I thank God that He gave her a second chance. She was just about gone two weeks prior. She almost died. BUT!!! God changed HER!! This shows that can use anyone!!!! I can't wait to see what God has in store for her!!! Her name is Savannah Farthing. Please pray for her that God continues to give her guidance.

WINTER JAM ROCKED!!!!

So for all who went to winter jam, we can all say that IT ROCKED!!!!!! The bands were amazing. Except I thought that Fireflight was a little to much screamo. I knew that this years jam was going to be good considering Third Day, NEWSBOYS, tenth avenue North are going to be there! It was awesome. Me and some other of youth decided to go down to the floor and stand the whole time. It was really loud!! I think I lost my hearing after the first band which was fireflight ofcourse. When the newsboys came, IT REALLY ROCKED!! Michael Tait from DC Talk was the lead singer, he did an amazing job. He sang Jesus Freak for the close and it rocked!! He decided to go crowed surfing and I was the one who helped him surf. Can you say at the right place at the right time!! Overall, this night was really good. Third Day did a great job closing the show out. I loved the song Revelation. It was really good. The best part was that about 1,000 people prayed the sinners prayer!!!! God is good!!!
I cant wait for next year!!

Being Watched
So this week pastor Marc said that as we grow in our relationship with Christ, we will begin to allow opportunities to come as we begin to live it out. This week I have alot of questions. More specificly, last night at Scholar Bowl, I was on the best coming home from East St. Louis. A senior came up to me and just started to talk to me. She was asking me about college and etc. Eventually this conversation turned into a time of witnessing. She asked me many question about faith and church. I asked her if she would like to come to youth group, she said she would love to. YEAHH!!!!! God is soo good. After that I gave her my book, "The ten most common objections to christiainity" This book rocks btw. Then we got back to school, I asked if I could pray for her before she left. I did that. As I was praying, the presence of the spirit was coming upon me. This was really cool!!! She told me after I prayed that I am really a true man of faith. This really helped me because it showed that I am making a difference in my school. God is good!!!

What's The Problem?
So I have been thinking alot recently. I have been wondering about some statistics that I have found. I just don't understand the majority of Christians. In the book, "The 10 most common objections to Christianity", it states that 80% of all people(both non-believers and believers) believe that there is more than one way to heaven. 91% of CATHOLICS, agree with this view!!!! 68% of evangelical protestants(aka us,) says that a good person who is of a different faith will go to heaven. And 65% of evangelical teens say that you cant be sure which religion is right!!
So my mind was boggled when I read this. How can this be? I mean for example, the Catholic church teaches that the bible is true, right? But on the other hand they believe that there is more than one way to heaven! There is something wrong with this statistic! Also, the fact that over 65% of evangelical teens say that you can't be sure which faith is right is just messed up to. Then if this is the case, then whats the whole point of going to church? If you dont believe in the bible then your faith is dead. I feel that Christians of all denomenations have decided that you dont need to be radical. You can be like everyone else. With this behavior it will cause the so called "Christians" to develop an opinion based off of a secular view. If Christians don't believe, then they should just leave. I know this is blunt, but God says that He does not like anyone luke warm. He rather you be hot or cold. If you are luke warm he will spit you out. He would rather know if you are not going to follow Him rather than be a hypocrite. Whats the problem? Is the meaning of Christianity been twisted? Is the definition of being one is just" I believe in Jesus, but I can still act like everyone and behave the same way'. Well to me that is MESSED UP!! We as a youth group need to step out and start making a difference. These statistics can change only if we answer God's calling. If we go after the situation, these stats WILL change!! God is able. I pray that people will begin to realize that time is short. Lets GO ALL IN FOR GOD!! I go back to school towmorrow, Im ready for battle, are you?

Reflection of 2009: A Year To Remember

WOW!!! I cant believe that another year has gone by. The year 2009 was a year of growth and development for me. I have overcomed challenges that really streched me not only physically but spiritually. God has challenged allot this past year. He told me to not worry about towmorrow. I just need to go out and DO HIS WORK!! God has given me strength to overcome strongholds. Strongholds that I was bounded to for years. God is an amazing God. What was really cool about this year was the amazing Missions trip we made to Osage. That week was one of the best weeks of my life. God told me my calling in life. To be a Missionary to India! The time that I spent with God and the group really made me strong. As the school year approached, I realized that I was not going to be able to be with my youth group while at school.
As school took session, God placed many opportunities for me to make Him known. Many times I had theological arguments with students and teachers about their opinion about Christianity. I learned that God has me at this school for a reason. Even though I complain about all the lost people, I know that my work is not in vain. They are noticing my difference. God has been faithful to me when I did not think it was possible to accomplish this objective. However, with God on my side he was able to provide $1,225.00 for missions in just TWO WEEKS!! This was a time were God had me to have faith in His abilities and not doubt. This year was an also a time of learning from mistakes.
In the beginning of the summer, God told me not to date, however, I did it out of my own will. As time progressed I became guilty. God had to get my attention span focus on Him in order to prepare me for future events. After analyzing my situation, I have came to a conclusion that dating is a WAISTE OF YOUR TIME (No dating in Highschool, unless God says okay). It just a bunch of emotions being waisted. I wish that I would have listened to God and not have done what I wanted.
Overall, even though our nation has been through alot of turmoils, I feel that the year 2009 was a great year! I can't wait to see whats in store for 2010! Im GOING ALL IN FOR GOD!!

My New Sermon
This sermon was the outline I preached to the youth group at the beginning of the month of December. It went realy well!. I spoke about obedience.
Obedience:
“Listening to God’s commands. The Rewards for being Obedient”.
Terms:
Obedience: To dutifully complying with the commands, orders, or instructions of one in authority.
* Basically it means be submissive to ones authority.*
Disobedience is just the opposite of obedience.
Biblical Reference:
Reflect on story of Moses and the events that led up to the event of the golden calf.
Exodus 32:1-8
1) Israelites disobey God by making an Idol
a) Why would they disobey after being freed from the Egyptians?
i) Because, they were used to be around gods that they could see.
ii) Moses represented the God of Israel, since he was not there, they felt far from God.
2) Consequences
a) God became very angry, Moses commanded the Levites to strap swords and kill the people who have disobeyed Him.
i) Exodus 32:27-29
3) Israelites sending spies into the promise land.
a) Rebel, become afraid and don’t go into the land.
i) Deuteronomy 1:21-22, 26, 34-35.
b) Effect: Israelites wonder in the desert for 40 years!
4) Disobedience
a) Deuteronomy 28:15-19
Overview
• When people are following God, He will always punish us.
• If we take our time in obeying him, we are basically disobeying Him. (Belated Obedience)
Testimony:
A. Relationship with Girlfriend
a. He told me to give my relationship but I refused
b. Life became difficult and uneasy
c. It was always on my mind, I felt guilty
B. Turn Around
a. Gave her up and life became wonderful!
b. I realized that she was a distraction in my life; He wanted me to be MORE FOCUSED on HIM.
c. God began to bless me more abundantly!
1) Obeying Him when giving to missions.
i) The giving up my relationship prepared me for what God had in store for me.
ii) He had me pledge a Goal of $1,000
iii) Obeyed and pursued the goal by doing a Bike Athon.
iv) In the end He blessed me with over $1,155.00
2) Blessings
a) Deuteronomy 28:1-6
Overview
• When you listen to God and follow His commands, He will ALWAYS Bless you for what you have done.
• Sometimes it might be hard to listen to Him, BUT it is worth it.
• It was hard for me to give up my girlfriend and make a promise for $1,000, but he rewarded me for my efforts. It was worth it.
• He will NEVER leave you in vain when you obey.
• His plan is far better than our own.
• Whenever you feel something in your heart, don’t put it off, God is telling you to do something.
• However, we might not get our blessings here on earth, but we will receive our blessings in heaven.
• God might be telling you to share your faith at school, SO WILL YOU LISTEN.
Will you begin to listen to Him and obey Him at all cost?

A month of OVERFLOW!!

WOW!! This month of November has been a time that I will NEVER FORGET!! God has done amazing things in my life. It all started at Momentum Youth Convention. God told me to step out in faith and pledge to give $1000 by the end of November. I was very nervous to accept this goal because I did not have a job. So I OBEYED God and listened to His goal that He had for me. Once I did that I began to think about different ways to raise money. God placed on my heart to do a Bike Athon. I decided to ask people to sponsor me as I biked 20 miles to raise money for STL. Well, with only week until my bike ride I had only raised $350. I began to question if this was a to big of goal for me to raise. But, I kept remaining faithful and pursing after God. That next day was a sunday, (last sunday), God blessed me with $350. I began to realize that God was going to take care of me. As the week of Thanksgiving unraveled and my bike ride aproaching sooner, God continued to bless me abundently. The day before Thanksgiving, God was gracious enough to provide enough sponsors to give me my goal. I had raised my $1000 goal. The only thing left was to bike 20 miles. However, that day God provided me with a few extra phone calls and I reached 38 dollars above my quota. When the day of the Bike ride came, I was excited. I biked from New Baden all the way to Highland and up to I-70. The last three mile were the most diffulct. I had to climb some steep hills and keep my rate at a steddy pace. The whole time my dad was right behind me on the highway with his flashers on directing traffic. When i made to the finish line I was soo tired but excited at the same time. Even though I was tired, I knew that over 1000 lives would be effected because what I did.
When I got home I thought to myself that I might get a letter in the mail from someone that sponsored me, but I was not going to worry about that. Well, we checked the mail, and there was a letter for me in the mail. It was from Tyler Reisings parents. Before I opened it I expected to receive the amount between $5 and $20. BUT, I opened it up and there was a check for $100!!!! I MY GOODNESS. Soon after that I received another phone call and received an additional $20. At the end of totaling, I have raised $1,158.00!! God's love really did overflow through me. I figured that with the time me being gone and the time I started promoting this event, I raised the amount of money in JUST TWO WEEKS!! If God can do that, He can do anything!! This event I will NEVER FORGET!! GOD ALWAYS PROVIDES. Whenever you do something, you need to make sure God is in the equation. Without Him, I could have not reached the amount I did. I give Him all the Glory and Honor!! Thank You GOD!!
